Trash-Free Penang
Introduction
Trash-Free Penang is a GREEN-themed programme under the Community-building Initiatives in conjunction with the Penang2030 ‘Phase 2: Accelerating Penang2030’. “The Community-building Initiatives” bring agencies and elected representatives together to actively promote and coordinate volunteerism in the state and to engage with the population as a whole.
This campaign is an effort by PGC to promote public awareness, and to help increase a sense of community ownership whereby locals will be encouraged to be more proactive in addressing the problems faced in their area. In addition, it also serves to support the Penang2030 vision as a family-focused green and smart state that inspires the nation.
Objectives
Trash-Free Penang was designed with the following objectives:
a) To promote waste segregation at source
b) To reduce the usage of single-use plastic
c) To recruit more Penang Green Citizens
Goals
a) To organise at least 3 Waste Segregation at Source (WSAS) programmes per KADUN
b) 80% community participation in WSAS projects
c) Maintain a minimum recruitment of 100 Penang Green Citizens per KADUN
d) Establish a minimum of 3 recycling bins/ stations per KADUN
