About Us
OUR VISION
PGC as a central hub in shaping a green and sustainable future of Penang
OUR MISSION
To enable, empower and advocate all stakeholders to adopt & promote sustainable development that protects the environment and quality of life
OUR STORY
Nurturing, facilitating, and coordinating environmental causes to create a cleaner, greener and safer Penang since 2011
The Penang State Government made history in 2011 in its green initiatives by implementing the “No Free Plastic Bag Every Day” policy. This transformed the habits of both businesses and citizens to the point of reducing a total of 33 million plastic bags since the birth of “no plastic bag” policy in 2009. The very same year, the State Government established Penang Green Council (PGC) to form a formidable, united force that strives “to enable, empower, and enrich all stakeholders in practising sustainable development that protects the environment and quality of life.”
Since inception to date, we work hard to uphold our founding purpose through innovating and facilitating creative green programmes for all ages and groups. These include partnering with corporates, training adult environmental educators, giving out well-known awards to outstanding environmentalists, and sowing the seed of preserving the Earth in the hearts of our youth.
We will not remain complacent but rather increase our efforts in a time and age where our future leaders live in virtual environments rather than the real world that withers by the day. Business Insider Malaysia (July 2019) has revealed that the climates of tropical cities will go berserk in 2050 with Putrajaya’s weather resembling Medan and London’s climate resembling Barcelona. (Source: research from Crowther Lab). All stakeholders of Mother Earth must learn how to preserve and heal it amid a dire global warming crisis.
Take a walk through PGC’s office now bequeathed with the prestigious GBI (NRNC) Office Interior Tool Gold Certification. We set the benchmark of highly sustainable and energy-efficient offices in Penang. Vigilant quality control is applied to ensure environmental-friendly renovation and design. Every detail is taken into account – from raw materials and construction up to finishing works for a pristine green office. Enjoy!
