Press statement by Ms Josephine Tan, General Manager of Penang Green Council on 16th October 2020.
Why dispose when you can reuse?
PGC introduces exclusive designed reusable and washable face mask for kids and adults to help the environment.
How can we live a healthy lifestyle when the world we live in has become so polluted when our lives depends on the surrounding we live in?
This month, we join the world to spread awareness about the importance of early tests and detection of breast cancer. To commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we introduced our first kid’s face mask – Hope. For every Hope sold in October, we will donate RM1 from the proceeds to Malaysian Breast Cancer Foundation. Hope is available for purchase on our website at RM10 each.
Adjusting to the new normal doesn’t mean compromising the environment too. Staying away from the virus can also be done within the means of us looking for alternatives to disposable such as reusable cloth masks made of materials recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO). This initiative of ours hopes to encourage the switch to reusable instead of disposable so we can reduce the amount of wastes sent to the landfill.
What makes this face masks of ours even more special? It is designed in-house hence there will be no other of the same design in the market. It is 3-ply consisting of 100% polyester outer layer and 65% polyester with 35% cotton inner layer. It also has an insert for filter if you need that extra protection. Apart from that, they are also handmade by single housewives and mother. Incomes of those non-essential sectors have suffered significant income loss and those dependent on daily wages are struggling to make ends meets. Our small initiative allowed them to put their sewing skills to use while earning additional income to support the livelihood of their families during this difficult time.
Our face masks for adults are already available since September 4th. They come readily in 2 designs – Nature and Safari. Priced at only RM10 per piece (excluding shipping fees). Together with our e-commerce partner Jumix, all purchase will need to be made through our website www.pgc.jumix.com.my for a contactless, safe and smoother shopping experience of yours.
