Food is a basic need that must be met for every person. While people in rural areas can produce their own food, those in the cities are dependent on purchased food.
According to the United Nation, the human population living in urban areas is expected to increase from 55% today to 68% in 2050. This puts an enormous strain on cities and their surroundings. A particular challenge is getting enough fresh and nutritious food to the inner cities. Could urban farming be the answer to meet future demand? How can we feed more people on limited land, with limited resources?
In the upcoming episode of Sembang!, Mr Subbarow (Consumer Association Penang), Ms Hoyyee (Pop & Chee Healthy Home Farm) and Mr Gary (Victory Farm at Rooftop Malaysia) will be sharing their experiences from home farming to community garden and vertical farming.
